Ruffle and Fuss (2014)

  • Installation: Acrylic on mylar, glue, wax, thread, pins

  • Works on paper: watercolor, ink, colored pencil, glue, pins.

Ruffle and Fuss takes forces of nature – swarms, storm cells, eruptions – and renders them in humble materials with the artistic sensibility of a children’s book. Part theater and part blanket fort, my installations are the products of make-believe; pretend worlds that poke at the truth of our being in-the-world, the way we work things out for ourselves, navigate our experience, and construct our own realities. Fragmented, mutated forms are reconstructed into repetitive, almost obsessive conglomerations. Decorative and illustrative, the works reflect a desire to render harmless what is harmful.
